Will my British passport which expires next April cover me for a return flight to Prague in early December?
I have heard something about having 6 months on your passport but surely that makes it a 9 and a half year passport and not a 10 year one.
Just to clarify, Willeke is almost right.
You can travel within the European Union, the EEA [Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein] and to Switzerland with just a passport which must be valid during the stay.
This is based on EU law, no EU country may add any further passport requirements like 6 months or 90 days validation beyond the stay.

The passport is the only travel document for British citizens since the United Kingdom is not [yet] issuing national ID cards.
A British passport can be renewed up to 9 month before its expiration without losing validation time.
